Organizations Dramatists Guild: The Dramatists Guild of America was established over eighty years ago, and is the only professional association which advances the interests of playwrights, composers, lyricists, and librettists writing for the living stage. The Guild has over 6,000 members nationwide, from beginning writers to the most prominent authors represented on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and in regional theaters. The regional chapter for Washington state has bimonthly meetings in Seattle for members, with programs such as discussions with artistic directors of theatres large and small, guest artists, and panel discussions about play development organizations and various forms of self-production. The Guild’s regional rep is Seattle playwright Duane Kelly; he can be contacted at dkelly@dramatistsguild.com. Seattle Playwrights' Collective (SPC): open for playwrights wanting to work with a group on their scripts, table read processes up through staged readings. If you are interested in just sitting in, please refer to the web site for times/dates and come on down. If you want to have a piece up to 15 minutes long read, contact seattleplaywrightscollective@yahoo.com or miryamgordon@gmail.com to get info on how to schedule your piece for a table read. Stone Soup: Calling all Female playwrights! - Double (XX) Fest If you are interested in being a part of an annual playwrights’ festival featuring women writers and directors, then Stone Soup’s Double (XX) Fest is for you! For the past four years, Stone Soup Theatre has produced (along with a team of directors and actors) up to fourteen original works in the Downstage theatre. This season, we’re trying something different with the Double (XX) Fest – instead of two weeks of short (up to 20 min) pieces, we’re going for 3 weeks, using both the DownStage and the UpStage, and featuring works from 10-minute shorts to longer 45 minute pieces. And of course, showcasing exclusively the work of female playwrights and directors. The Skinny: We are seeking original one-act plays (up to 45 minutes in length), particularly 10-minute shorts written by women. Can be any subject matter with casts of both genders. 50% of our scripts will be self-produced from local playwrights. The other half, non-local, will be produced by Stone Soup actors and directors. Submissions will be accepted at the theatre through January 14, 2011. Plays must be submitted by mail (NO electronic submissions will be accepted, sorry!) to this address:
